Artist's Description
As you have undoubtedly noticed, this body of work, along with the individual pieces, is untitled. I do not label my work or, for that matter, write a description. I have done this in the past. I soon realized, however, that this directed the viewer and steered them in one particular direction or another. As I have evolved as an artist, I have let go of the need to do this as I want the witness to have more control over what they see and, as a result, what they feel. It is feelings and emotions that I wish to evoke. As such, if labels, phrases, explanations are present, these curtail such an experience, and I have lost the possibility of an intimate connection with a viewer.
About Jeremiah Ray
Jeremiah Ray is an interdisciplinary artist and writer living and working in the coastal Maine region. He has an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His visual artwork is much like his life insofar as it is a constant journey of exploration and discovery. In his formative years, Jeremiah traveled extensively, exploring languages and cultures to fulfill a need for both adventure and as instruments of further understanding himself. Jeremiah completed his MFA in studio art with one intention - to teach. He desired to assist others in finding and honing their unique, personal language.
